Animals in Winter

Dear Families,
Today me and Brendan played Harry Potter outside. We are going to play Harry Potter every single day we meet each other. That even means during creative play, atelier, and every single recess.
LOVE,
bat man!!!

This week we are starting a new theme: Animals in Winter. We were delighted to find several animal costumes and an assortment of fabric in the Creative Play room today! These costumes and fabrics will allow us to turn into different types of animals as we learn about how different species prepare for winter.

We had lots to talk about during calendar time today since it’s a new month. We discussed upcoming holidays and birthdays in February. We labeled the dates on our February calendar and wrote up other special events such as book bags and buddies. We decided that February is a very tricky month to spell since the word does not look the way it sounds. We skip-counted by 5s and 10s today as we figured out that we had been in school for 90 days so far. We also got to add a tally to our tooth chart since Isabela lost a tooth over the weekend!

Jack wrote an interesting story about a Lego creation that he made. He shared a photo of his creation with the class using the SMART Board.

Lola and Friends,

I’m glad you’re learning about animals that hibernate during the winter.  Today I read a very interesting story in the newspaper.  There are a lot of old pieces of fun from animals that died a long time ago.  Today scientists and other people who take care of animals are using these pieces of fur to make soft beds for baby animals who lost their mom.  The fur keeps them nice and warm and smells like their mother so they are not afraid.  I think that’s really great!

Hugs,

Mamma

Dear Ms. Sarah,
We miss you very much. We hope you are having fun with your other class. Maybe you will come back and see us sometime. Mr. Danny is here every day now. We are learning about animals.
Love,
The Whales

Dear Lola’s Grandma,
That’s a cool story. That’s sad that some baby animals lost their mommies. We are glad that they have some fur to keep them safe and warm. We painted animal homes today. We watched a video about a bear in winter. The bears had bear cubs. Bears hibernate a little bit, but not all the way. They sometimes wake up in winter.
Love,
The Whales
