Dr. Seuss Day!

Posted By: Ms. Aja on Monday, March 01, 2010 at 03:40 PM

It was such an exciting day at school today! Most of the whales wore their pajamas to school to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day.  Buddies from the Community School came to join in our school-wide celebration. There were five different activity centers set-up around the school.  Kinders and Preschoolers stayed in small groups with their buddies to rotate to the different activity centers every 20 minutes. In the Creative Play room our buddies read beloved Dr. Seuss books to us. We got to hear a lot of old favorites and even some Dr. Seuss stories that were new to us.

In the atelier Ms. Rachelle read Bartholomew and the Oobleck to us. Then we got to make our own oobleck by mixing corn starch, water, and green food coloring. It was fascinating to explore the properties of oobleck. Sometimes oobleck behaved like a solid and sometimes it behaved like a liquid.

In the Dolphins’ room we made green eggs and ham for snack and we decorated Dr. Seuss hats.

One of our activity centers was playing outside with our big buddies. Our last center was in the Sharks classroom. We got to play Dr. Seuss word games and a Cat in the Hat board game.

In the afternoon we got to snuggle down with blankets and pillows and watch Horton Hears a Who

Lola and Friends,

I loved Dr. Seuss!  When I was a little girl, I used to go to the library and read Dr. Seuss all afternoon.  I lived in San Francisco in California and during the summer time it was always foggy and cold.  So I would go to the library and read.

I think it is so much fun to spend the day in my pajamas.  They are always so warm and comfortable.  But Grandpa likes it better when I put on my clothes so that we can go outside and sit by the creek.

Dear Whales,

That was such a fun day, when we wore our jammies and celebrated Dr. Suess!  You are already authors yourselves, and now you are experts on this famous author too.

Also, I am amazed at how many pennies you all collected together - all the pennies you gave away and then added together will be enough to make some other kids’ lives better.  YOU did that!

Love,
Ms Shelley

Dear Mamma,
We hope we can see you on the playground or swimming. We hope you are coming here really soon. Try to come here next time. I might see you at the pool.  We like Dr. Seuss too. I like Green Eggs and Ham, the book. I don’t like Green Eggs and Ham to eat.
Love,
The Whales

Dear Ms. Shelley,
We like you. We all liked it when you and us watched Horton Hears a Who. Sometime can we watch it again please. I like your comment.
Love,
The Whales
