Each week we learn a new poem. Sometimes kids choose the weekly poem and sometimes Ms. Aja chooses the poem. We read these poems many times throughout the week and we do different reading activities with them. At the end of the week we each illustrate our own copy of the poem and add it to our individual poetry notebooks. We love to read poetry and later in the year we will be writing our own poems!
Classroom Songs and Poems
Donut Shop
Well, I walked around a corner,
And I walked around a block
And I walked right in to a donut shop
And I picked up a doughnut
And I wiped off the grease
And I handed the lady my five cent piece
Well, she looked at the nickel
And she looked at me
And she said “Kind sir, can’t you plainly see,
there’s a hole in the nickel and it goes right through”
I said “There’s a hole in the donut too.
Thanks for the donut, good night!”
Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
And eyes, and ears, and mouth,
And nose.
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
Shake My Sillies Out
I’ve gotta shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
And wiggle my waggles away!
I’ve gotta clap, clap, clap my crazies out,
Clap, clap, clap my crazies out,
Clap, clap, clap my crazies out,
And wiggle my waggles away!
I’ve gotta jump, jump, jump my jiggles out,
Jump, jump, jump my jiggles out,
Jump, jump, jump my jiggles out,
And wiggle my waggles away!
I’ve gotta yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out,
Yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out,
Yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out,
And wiggle my waggles away!
I’ve gotta shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
And wiggle my waggles away,
And wiggle my waggles away!
Baby Beluga
Baby beluga in the deep blue sea,
Swim so wild and you swim so free.
Heaven above and the sea below,
And a little white whale on the go.
Baby beluga, baby beluga,
Is the water warm? Is your mama home,
With you so happy?
Way down yonder where the dolphins play,
Where you dive and splash all day,
Waves roll in and the waves roll out.
See the water squirting out of your spout.
Baby beluga, oh, baby beluga,
Sing your little song, sing for all your friends.
We like to hear you.
When it’s dark, you’re home and fed.
Curled up snug in your waterbed.
Moon is shining and the stars are out.
Good night, little whale, good night.
Baby beluga, oh, baby beluga,
With tomorrow’s sun, another day’s begun.
You’ll soon be waking.
Baby beluga in the deep blue sea,
Swim so wild and you swim so free.
Heaven above and the sea below,
And a little white whale on the go.
You’re just a little white whale on the go.
Tiny Turtle
I had a little turtle,
His name was Tiny Tim.
I put him in the bathtub, to see if he could swim.
He drank up all the water,
He ate up all the soap.
And in the morning he woke up with bubbles in his throat!
Bubble, bubble, bubble.
Bubble, bubble, bubble.
Bubble, bubble, bubble.
Bubble, bubble, POP! (clap hands)
The Whales
We’re the Whales, the Whales,
And here’s our fantastic tale:
When there is no way out, don’t sit and pout,
Just simply call the Whales!
Through thick, and thin,
When troubles do begin,
When the Whales are on your side,
You’re always gonna win!
When days are sad and weeks are bad,
You’ve had a crummy year,
We’ll swim a mile to make you smile,
We’ll always be right here!
The Whales!
Make New Friends
Make new friends,
But keep the old.
One is silver,
And the other gold
A circle is round,
It has no end.
That’s how long
I want to be your friend.
December
In December I will be
A baubled, bangled Christmas tree
With soup bowls draped all over me
Merry once,
Merry twice,
Merry chicken soup with rice

November
In November’s gusty gale
I will flop my flippy tail
And spout hot soup-
I’ll be a whale!
Spouting once,
Spouting twice,
Spouting chicken soup with rice
