Each week we learn a new poem. Sometimes kids choose the weekly poem and sometimes Ms. Aja chooses the poem. We read these poems many times throughout the week and we do different reading activities with them. At the end of the week we each illustrate our own copy of the poem and add it to our individual poetry notebooks. We love to read poetry and later in the year we will be writing our own poems!

A jack-o-lantern is big,
A jack-o-lantern is round,
It has a great big smile
But doesn’t make a sound

Down, down
Yellow and brown
The leaves are falling
Over the town.

Five little pumpkins
Sitting on a gate.
The first one said,
“Oh, my it’s getting late!”
The second one said,
“There are witches in the air!”
The third one said,
“Well, I don’t care!”
The fourth one said,
“Let’s run and run and run!”
The fifth one said,
“I’m ready for some fun!”
Ooooo went the wind
And out went the lights
And the five little pumpkins
Rolled out of sight. 

In October
I’ll be host
To witches, goblins and a ghost
I’ll serve them chicken soup on toast
Whoopy once,
whoopy twice,
Whoopy chicken soup with rice

In September,
for a while
I will ride a crocodile
Down the chicken soup-y Nile
Paddle once,
Paddle twice,
Paddle chicken soup with rice

Close the barbeque
Close the sun
Close the homerun games we`ve won
Close the picnic
Close the pool
Close the summer
Open school!
